Canonical URLs

Enabled by default, Canonical URLs standardize tracking by resolving variations in URLs (e.g., due to query parameters, trailing slashes, or protocol differences) to a single canonical form. This prevents data fragmentation and duplicate entries in your dashboard.
  • Why/When to Disable: Disable if your site relies on URL variations for distinct tracking (e.g., campaign-specific parameters that should be treated separately) or if you’re using custom URL normalization logic. It’s useful in scenarios where preserving raw URLs is critical for debugging or granular analysis.
  • Why Not/When Not to Disable: Keep it enabled to maintain clean, aggregated metrics and avoid inflated page view counts from minor URL differences. It’s recommended for most sites to ensure reliable reporting without manual intervention.
  1. Go to the menu on the top right and navigate to Settings
  2. Click Sites.
  3. Select the desired site.
  4. Enable/Disable Use canonicals.
  5. Don’t forget to click Save at the bottom of the page.

Multi-Domain Tracking

Disabled by default, this feature allows a single tracking script to monitor multiple domains or subdomains, aggregating all data into one dashboard for centralized insights.
  • Why/When to Enable: Enable if you manage related sites (e.g., example.com and blog.example.com) and want unified analytics without separate setups. It’s ideal for cross-domain user journeys, like e-commerce funnels spanning domains, simplifying management and providing a holistic view.
  • Why Not/When Not to Enable: Leave it disabled for isolated sites to prevent data mixing that could skew metrics or complicate attribution. Use separate sites if domains represent distinct brands or require independent reporting for compliance or organizational reasons.
  1. Go to the menu on the top right and navigate to Settings
  2. Click Sites.
  3. Select the desired site.
  4. Enable/Disable Enable Multi Domain Support.
  5. Don’t forget to click Save at the bottom of the page.
